Esther Dorothy 'Holden' Guilfoyle, she was adopted by Anna May Holden and her husband John Holden, her adoptive parents took her home at the age of three months old, a very sickly baby. she needed the love and tender care, as they didn't know if she would live or not, but the Holdens wanted to give her every chance they could. She grew up to be very healthy. she was not legally adopted until 1915. and was adopted the same time as her one year older sister was adopted at the same Judge Goshby officiated and finalized the adoption, both children were listed as abondoned, later in years , Esther made contact with her birth mother, Agness at the age of 16 years old. Esther and her adopted sister Ethel, were both raised at the Howell mountain Rd. Home in Con Valley. Walking to school, across the Pope street bridge, and later both girls would ride their horses to school. It was there at the Con Valley Home that she devloped her skills of taking care and loving her little animals. dogs, cats, skunks, and her love for horses. she was a expert horsewoman, and could ride like the wind. No children. but made her animals rather like her children. and part of her little family. Married three times Her last beloved husband, proeceded her in death Joe Guilfoyle. the last years, were spent at the little house on Ilers Ln. St. Helena Ca. where she enjoyed her life taking care of her horses, carlos the jack ass. the many goats and her dogs, cats, all in her care, Lived there until she had her stroke, and passed away, close to 90 years old. Evryone Knew Esther, and she would swiftly walk down the main street of St. Helena or even in Calistoga, they would give her a hi Esther, She would reply Hi, What the hell you doin! At the of 80 she rode her white horse in the parade as lady cadiva, she would dress all up in her skin tights and long blond wig. she rode in the local parades, until one day her horse chocked eating a corn cob, and died. Leaving her many friends, neighbors nieces and nephews, Yvonne from Dinuba, Sharon from Lower lake ca. Pam Harpster from Lakeport, Foster neices Sara, and June from Baldwin Park Ca., Marvin from Georga, Thomas from Redding, Ca.
