Max Carl Ammons, 82, Springfield, Missouri, died at 3:14 a.m. Friday, October 26, 2007, in the Strafford Care Center, Strafford, Missouri. He was born February 15, 1925, in Aurelia, Iowa, the son of Carl and Viola Ammons. Max was united in marriage to Hazel Jeanne Wilson on June 25, 1947, in Tacoma, Washington. Max was a U.S. Army veteran serving in World War II and the Korean Conflict. He spent many years in automobile sales and farming. Max retired with over 20 years of service in the security department with Wilson Foods, Cherokee, Iowa. After many years, a true "Iowegian", he moved to Missouri in 1987 to be closer to family and a warmer climate. Max enjoyed long conversations with friends, gardening, fishing and good food. He was a past member of the Aurelia Methodist Church, Aurelia, Iowa, and Schweitzer Methodist Church, Springfield, Missouri. He is a current member of Cornerstone Church in Springfield, Missouri. He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Viola Ammons of Aurelia, Iowa. He is survived by his wife, Peg Ammons, of 60 years; a daughter and her husband, Sheila and Ron Steffes, Springfield, Missouri; a son and his wife, Mark and Debby Ammons, Sioux City, Iowa; a son and his wife, Tracy and Constance Ammons, Summervjlle, South Carolina; a sister and brother-in-law, Joyce and Jerry Rohrbaugh, Springfield, Missouri; a granddaughter and her husband, Jennifer and Joe Passanise, Springfield, Missouri; a granddaughter and her husband, Amiee and Jim Labrie, Kansas City, Missouri; a granddaughter, Molly Steffes, Sierra Vista, Arizona; a granddaughter and her husband, Trisha and Sean Monahan, Glenwood, Iowa; a granddaughter and her husband, Kristin and Patrick Murphy, Springfield, Missouri; a grandson, Logan Ammons and granddaughter, Esther Ammons, Summerville, South Carolina; three great-grandchildren, Brendan, Ellie and Isabella; many nieces, nephews and special friends. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, October 30, 2007, in Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home, 1947 E. Seminole, Springfield, Missouri, 65804, 417-886-9994, with Pastor Jess Gibson officiating. Visitation will also be held in Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home from 6 to 8 p.m. this evening, October 29, 2007. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Aurelia, Iowa. The family requests memorials in Max Ammons' name made to Cornerstone Church, 1701 South Fort, Springfield, Missouri, 65807. We are so thankful for the memories you left with us, you will be greatly missed, yet we know you are in the presence of our Lord and Savior.
