Amelia was the 7th of 8 children born to Ella Mae Wise and Benjamin Joel Wade. She grew up in Arkansas and married W. A. "Gus" Hartman on February 4, 1929. They moved to Lubbock in 1945. They helped establish the first branch of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Lubbock where she was a member of the church. Amelia and Gus Hartman had 3 daughters.
