Motion Picture Director. He started in movies in the 1910s, writing and directing short comedies for Mack Sennett. Later he married Sarah Y. Mason, the very first "continuity girl" in the business, and as a writing team they won an Academy Award for best screenplay adaptation of Louisa May Alcott's novel "Little Women" in 1933. They had two children, Victor and Catherine (godparents Mary Pickford and Douglas Fairbanks). Heerman is perhaps best remembered for directing the Marx Brothers' second film, "Animal Crackers" (1930), a version of their Broadway hit. He lived to see the film revived in 1974, filling even first-run theaters in New York.
