Donald L. "Demo" DeMarse Sr., 76, of Belleville, Ill., born Aug. 2, 1931, in East St. Louis, Ill., died Wednesday, Oct. 24, 2007, at his residence.
Mr. DeMarse played Class A baseball for the St. Louis Cardinals and served as general manager for Demo's Softball Team. He was a member of Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church, Belleville, Ill. Demo loved his family, sports, and his friends.
He was preceded in death by a grandson, Timmy Frazier; his parents, Charles and Nora, nee Durney, DeMarse; a brother, Tom DeMarse; his mother-in-law, Elizabeth "Toots" Gerold; his father-in-law, George Gerold; and a brother-in-law, E.F. Gerold.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Sue, nee Gerold, DeMarse, whom he married Oct. 17, 1953; three sons, Donald DeMarse Jr. of Belleville, Ill., Charles "Chuck" DeMarse of Interlachen, Fla., and George (Susan) DeMarse of Bethesda, Md.; two daughters, Elizabeth (Tim) Messbarger of Belleville, Ill., and Cynthia (Mike) Biggs of St. Louis, Mo.; 12 grandchildren, Christine (Mike), Donyelle, Lauren, Megan, Austin, Eric, the late Timmy, Anna "Toots", Mike, Doug, Jeff, and AJ; a brother, Arnold (Ann) DeMarse; a dear aunt, Ruth Arnold; a sister-in-law, Betty Stanley; and many other dear family members and friends.
Memorials may be made to Our Lady Queen of Peace Parish, to Hospice of Southern Illinois, or to Althoff Catholic High School. Condolences may be expressed to the family online at www.rennerfh.com.
Visitation: Friends may call from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 27, 2007, at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church, 5923 North Belt West, Belleville, Ill. 62223.
Funeral: A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 27, 2007, at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church, Belleville, Ill., with Father Jack McEvilly officiating.
Burial will be at Mount Carmel Catholic Cemetery, Belleville, Ill.
