He then moved to NBC Television in Los Angeles, and he became noticed during the 1956 political conventions when he was teamed up with former UPI reporter David Brinkley. Their chemistry led to the two men being paired for the "Huntley-Brinkley Report", which ran from the early 1960s to 1970. Their signature sign-off was "Good Night, Chet" from Brinkley, followed by a "Good Night, David" from Huntley, and their dual coverage lasted until August 1970, when Chet Huntley retired. After the "Huntley-Brinkley Report" went off the air, he became a spokesman for American Airlines, then he started his own Montana Vacation Resort in Bozeman, Montana, where he died of lung cancer in 1974.
