Clarence N. "Nut" Cokeley Jr., 82, died Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2007, at his home. He was born to Clarence N. and Grace Baxter Cokeley May 23, 1925, in Gridley. He married Dorothy J. McClellan Aug. 19, 1949, in Palco. She died March 29, 2001. He attended school at Palco. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army. He worked in the oilfield for several years and moved to Liberal in 1951. He worked for Hodges Candy for 10 years and drove truck for C & N Trucking eight years. He was a member of the VFW Lane Day Post No. 3166 of Liberal. He drove dirt track race cars for 30 years and loved to tinker in his shop. He is survived by two sons, Will Cokeley and wife, Beth, Eudora, and Mark Cokeley and wife, Luanna, Liberal; six grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and two sisters, Ila Balthazor and husband, Jerome, Palco, and Joann Phillips and husband Raymond, Wakeeney. He was also preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and two sisters.
Funeral services will be at noon Friday at the First United Methodist Church of Liberal. Burial will be at the Restlawn Memorial Gardens.
