Julia Mae Duke, daughter of Franklin and Mary Etta Allen, was born Octorber 11, 1882 and passed away December 23, 1952 at home, at the age of 70 years, 2 months and 12 days.
Most of her life was spent in Harlan, Iowa and surrounding communities. On December 19, 1901 she was united in marriage to William John Duke of Harlan. Her married life was spent in Shelby and Guthrie counties. To this union were born 15 children, eleven of which are still living; Mrs Vern Ohm and Robert Duke of Guthrie Center, Iowa; Rev. F.J. Duke of Brainard, Minnesota; Mrs Charlie Dewitt of Casey, Iowa; Loren Duke of Perry, Iowa; Rex of Panora, Iowa; Mrs John Stillings of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; Leland Duke of Seattle, Washington; Merle Duke of Council Bluffs, Iowa; Mrs Otto Gearthart of Harlan and Edwin at home. Her husband and four children precede her in death.
Surviving are; one brother, O.E. Allen of Harlan, 42 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
In September 1950, she united with the Church of Nazarene where she sought earnestly to know and do the will of her heavenly Father.
Funeral services were held Friday, December 26, at 2 o'clock at the Schack funeral home. The Rev. R. Wilfong was in charge.
Pallbearers were Cliff Haskell, Everette Baker, Walter McCoy, LeRoy Potter, Howard Petersen and Joe Herzing. Burial was in the Harlan cemetery.
