Billy Ray Luedke, 68, went to be with his Lord while surrounded by his loving family Oct. 21, 2007, after a courageous battle with cancer. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 23, at Grace Lutheran Church of Mart, the family church of his youth, with Pastor Curt Schneider officiating. Burial will follow in Riesel Cemetery. Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at Pecan Grove Funeral Home.
Bill was born in McGregor, Texas, to the late William F. "Bill" and Helma "Tooti" Matthys Luedke. He attended Hallsburg and Riesel schools and graduated from Riesel High School and Navarro Junior College. Bill excelled in sports, especially football at both institutions. He was employed by both the United States Department of Agriculture and the Texas Animal Health Commission. For many years, Bill managed a large cattle ranch in Southeast Texas owned by the Sabine Corporation in Dallas. He loved this job. It was a wonderful life in which to raise a family. After retirement, he returned to central Texas.
Bill is survived by his wife of 47 years, Betty (Vogel) Luedke; sons, Ray Luedke, of Houston, Ron Luedke and granddaughter, Hannah, of Houston; daughter, Lynn Veal and husband, Craig, of Arlington; brother, Cal L. Luedke and wife, J'Ann, of Mart; and several nieces and nephews.
