Ruth King Cole, the merry old soul, as she liked to introduce herself, was born in Llano, Texas on Dec. 4, 1909 and died in Okla. City on Oct. 16, 2007 after a long illness. She was the daughter of a Methodist Minister, Rev. Jesse Twing King and Winona Hankins King. She attended Westmoreland Women's College and Southern Methodist University. She met Edwin Gardner Cole of Dallas at SMU and they were married. Gardner was transferred to Chicago with Swift & Co., and later became Vice-president. They lived in Beverly Hills in Chicago before retiring to Dallas. Ruth was preceded in death by her brother, J.T. King, Jr. Ruth was a homemaker and an active volunteer in such organizations as Infant Welfare Society and St. Luke's Hospital in Chicago and Presbyterian Hospital in Dallas. She is survived by her daughter, Carol Cole Mears and her husband Marc Mears; grandchildren, Debbie Haynes and her husband David, Wayne Acker, Lynda Acker, Laurie Ranney and her husband Steve; and great- grandchildren, Mike Haynes, Jennifer Haynes, Taylor Acker, Brant and Baylee Ranney. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Westminster. A Memorial Service will be held at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 4400 N. Shartel in the Chapel on Tuesday, October 23, 2007, at 2:00 PM in Okla City. A graveside service will be held on October 27, 2007 at 2:00 PM at Restland Memorial Park, 13005 Greenville Ave. in Dallas.
