Born in Long Islands City, New York, he was best remembered for the role as Father Damien Karras in original film "The Exorcist" (1973). He also appeared in "The Nickel Ride" (1974), "The Dan Curse" (1978), "Monsignor" (1982), "The Exorcist III" (1990) and "Rudy" (1993). As a playwright, he won a Tony Award and Pulitzer Prize for writing the play "That Championship Season" in 1973. He also co-founded the Scranton Public Theatre, Pennsylvania, directed and starred in various productions. He died in Scranton, Pennsylvania, at age 62. (bio by: John "J-Cat" Griffith)
