Zaidee Bell Baker was born on 18 September 1873 in Gonzales, Texas, to farmer James Alexander "Jim" Baker and his wife Laura Lee Squires. She was the oldest of five children.
Zaidee married Joseph Perry "Joe" Ford on 8 January 1891, when she was seventeen years old, at the Baker home in Gonzales, Texas. They raised five children in Smith County, Texas: Eva Jo, Eunice Edna, Laura Velma, Victor Roe, and Elmer Vaughn.
Joe gave Zaidee a Colt 45 shortly after they were married and taught her how to shoot it; he wanted her to be protected when he was away.
Zaidee Baker Ford slept with her Colt 45 under her pillow until she died, August of 1976, in Lindale, Texas, at the age of almost 103; no one dared bother her! She was buried with her husband and daughter at Bethesda Cemetery in Smith County.
