BALDWYN - Dr. Hiram D. Palmertree, 65, formerly of Vaiden and Starkville, died Friday, March 31, 2006, at his residence. He was Professor of Agronomy at Mississippi State University and Past Director of the Mississippi State Extension Service. He was recipient of the 1996 USDA's Secretary's Honors Award for Equal Opportunity in Washington, D.C., National Extension System Diversity Award recipient in 1996 and recipient of the 1996 Alumnus of the Year Award at Holmes Community College. He was a member of Mount Olive Baptist Church in Baldwyn.

Services will be at 3:30 p.m. today at the Lee Funeral Home Chapel in Winona with the Rev. Phillip Palmertree, Mr. Danny Cheatham and Mr. Larry McClellan officiating. Burial will be in the Old Plank Cemetery near Vaiden.


Survivors include his wife, Ruth Carol Palmertree of Baldwyn; one daughter, Delese Tutor and her husband, Mike, of Booneville; one son, Jason Murray Palmertree of Baldwyn; one sister, Martina Palmertree Mayfield and her husband, James, of Vaiden; three grandchildren, Richard Tyler Tutor, Allison Elizabeth Tutor and Andrew Douglas Tutor, all of Booneville.


Pallbearers will be Ronnie Jones, Tim Pepper, Bill Henry, John Wilson, James Mayfield, Mike Tutor, Tyler Tutor, Dalton Garner and Vance Watson. Honorary pallbearer will be Normie Buehring.
