Walter V. Tullos, Jr., 89, a retired businessman and resident of Oklahoma City for over 40 years, died early Saturday morning, October 13, 2007, at his residence at The Mansion at Waterford in Oklahoma City. He was born August 23, 1918 in Shreveport, LA. He was the owner of Tullos 5 cent to $1 store in Minden, LA, and was president of Tullos-Smith Stores, Inc. in Shreveport, LA, where the company owned two stores and the Ben Franklin Store in Springhill, LA. In 1959, he merged his stores with TG&Y, and eventually became Executive Vice President of TG&Y until his retirement in the early 80's. He was a WWII veteran, serving in the European Theater. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Eugenia 'Tom' Wood, Oklahoma City; a daughter and sonin-law, Emily and Mike Simms, Oklahoma City; a son and daughter-in-law, W.Vandy, III and Debbie Tullos, Baton Rouge, LA; grandchildren, Kennon and Tony Bannon, Cary, NC, Walter 'Kip' Tullos, IV and Jaimee C. Tullos, Birmingham, AL, Jon R. Minks, Los Angeles, CA, Stephen Minks and Jane Simms, both of Oklahoma City, and Rachel L. Tullos, Baton Rouge, LA; great-grandchildren, Zachary, Brantleigh, Tyler, and Kayleigh Bannon, Cary, NC. He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter V. and Carolyn Cooper Tullos and a brother, William George Tullos. He previously served as President of the Chamber of Commerce, was a member of the official board of the First United Methodist Church, and the Lions Club all in Minden, LA. He loved golf, fishing and traveling. Walter had a wonderful sense of humor, and a special bond with his family, especially his grandchildren. He will be greatly missed. Funeral Services will be at 11:00 A.M., Wedneday, October 17, 2007, at Smith & Kernke Chapel, 14624 N. May Avenue. Interment will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
