Nesbitt, Capt. R. A., 1838 - 1912
Robert A. was born 11 April 1838 in Armstrong County, PA, the son of Hugh and Francis Nesbit.
Living in Sharpsburg in 1860, he enlisted 1 August 1861 at Pittsburgh with Company B of the 63rd Regiment of the PA Volunteers.
By 1864 he had been promoted to Captain and commanded the unit. He suffered severe hearing loss after Gettysburg and was wounded at the Battle of the Wilderness in May of 1864.
After the war he opened a grocery store and lived in Butler County, Kansas and then Irwin.
In 1912 he died in Irwin of cancer of the neck and face.
Died in Irwin PA on September 30, 1912 at age 74. Death caused by cancer of the face and neck. Interred on October 2, 1912 in Section 2, Range 8, Lot 3 owned by Robert Nesbit.
