William L. Slater STEUBENVILLE, Ohio William L. Slater, 89, of Steubenville, died Monday, June 4, 2007, in Trinity Medical Center West. He was born Aug. 23, 1917, in Steubenville, son of the late William and Minnie Ockenhauser Slater. He is also preceded by his three sisters, Frances Slater, Florence Ensell and Marie Young. Surviving are his wife, Mary E. Babella Slater whom he married June 17, 1948; one brother, Paul (Dorotha) Slater of Mesa City, Ariz.; two nephews, Robert and Russell Ensell; three nieces, Carol Skvorcz, Barbara Eng and Paulette Butlin; two great-nieces, Anna Eng and Bobbie Jo Butlin; and one great- nephew, Jamison Messerly. William was a devoted charter member of Grace Lutheran Church. His most rewarding project at Grace Lutheran was working on the Easter eggs and delivering them with his wife. William graduated from Steubenville High School in 1935 and retired from Weirton Steel, electrolitic department, Tin Mill in 1979. Following his retirement from Weirton Steel, he worked for Meals on Wheels. He was a former member of the Dyer Country Club and its social committee. William also served his country in the Air Force during WWII and was a charter member of the 5th Army, 454th Bomb Group reunion committee and attended many of the reunions. Calling hours are Thursday, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Mosti Funeral Home, 4435 Sunset Blvd., Steubenville. A funeral service will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday at Grace Lutheran Church with Rev. Dr. Henry C. Fox celebrant. Burial will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Grace Lutheran Church. Offer condolences at www.mostifuneralhome. com
