Richard Harold Wittenmyer
Birth: Jan. 11, 1927
Wood County
Ohio, USA
Death: Sep. 5, 2005
Lucas County
Ohio, USA

AGE: 78 Years, 7 Months and 25 Days

My grandfather Richard Harold Wittenmyer was born on January 11th, 1927 in Portage, Wood County, Ohio as the 11th out of 12 children of John Franklin Wittenmyer and Flossie Hanna.

He married my grandmother Shirley Ann Nungester on June 20th, 1964 and she died on June 9th, 1972. He later remarried to Grace J. Emmitt in 1976 and she passed away on September 15th, 1984. He is the father of two daughters, Barbara Ann Wittenmyer-Dean whom was born in September 1962 and Cynthia Kay Wittenmyer-Riehl whom was born in October 1966.

For twenty-eight years, my grandfather worked in the food service at Bowling Green State University (BGSU) in Bowling Green, Ohio.

My grandfather was an avid train collector. I remember whenever my cousin Joey would come over for the weekend to visit, my grandfather, my sister Jessica, Joey and I would go out to the room attached to his garage and play with the trains. Another fond memory I have is playing hide and go seek in the dark with them, playing cops and robbers, cooking and playing with candles!

Richard is the grandfather to Joseph D. Collins (b. February 1990), Julie Ann Dean (me; b. March 1993), Jessica Marie Dean (b. September 1996), Skylar Leanne Riehl (b. January 1999), and Danyael Lee Riehl (b. December 2000)

He is survived by older brothers Charles Wittenmyer, Bernard and Ernest Wittenmyer and his younger sister Esther. His older brothers & sisters Alvin E. Wittenmyer, Ralph H. Wittenmyer, Lyle Wittenmyer, Grace Wittenmyer, Dorothy D. Wittenmyer, Mary Ellen Wittenmyer and Ethel M. Sartwell all died before him.

On September 5th, 2005 at the Medical College of Ohio (MCO) in Toledo, Lucas County, Ohio, my grandfather passed away.

I hope you're happy up in heaven; you'll never be forgotten here on Earth. I miss you more than words could ever explain. Rest in peace Grandpa!!!
