Mrs. Lucinda Rubart Died in Atlas (June 24, 1922)

Was a Former Resident of Beverly Township

Mr.s Lucinda Rubart, formerly a well known and highly esteemed resident of Beverly township, died at the home of her daughter in Atlas last Thursday. A complete obiturary follows:

Lucinda Mayfield was born near Beverly, Adams county, Illinois, on June 20, 1838, and passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Stella Adams in Atlas, on Thursday, June 15, at the age of 83 years, 11 months and 25 days. She was th eldest of a family of 10 children of Isiiah (sic) and Ada Lee Mayfield. The parents were natives of North Carolina and were among the first settlers of Adams county, going there when the country was still a wilderness.

She was married to James Rubart on December 21, 1850, and they became the parents of twelve children, five of whom died in infancy. One son died when 7 years of age: Charles at the age of 27 years, met death while in service during the Spanish-American war. This was indeed a shock to the mother, as his return was daily expected, when the sad news came that his death had occurred.

Mrs. Rubart is survived by five children - two sons, Wm., of Colorado Springs, Colo.; Fred. of Pleasanton, Nebraska; three daughters - Mrs. Rose Noyes of Kearney, Nebraska; Mrs. Ida Pilling of Baylis, and Mrs. Stella Adams of Atlas. There are twenty-five grandchildren and twenty-three great-grandchildren. One brother, Levi Mayfield resides in Barry.

Since the death of her husband twelve years ago, Mrs. Rubart has lived among her children. About six years ago she went to the home of Mrs. Adams in Atlas. Soon after this she fell, breaking a limb, and has since been confined to her bed. Although she suffered greatly, yet she was ever patient, never murmuring, always thoughtful and considerate of those who so kindly cared for her.
