William T. McKee; (born Jan. 12, 1857 in Sullivan Co., died May 30, 1948), was married to Nancy O. Peterson. They were buried in the Campground Cemetery. William was the son of John C. (Oct. 11, 1821, Tenn.), and Martha C. (Nov. 21, 1827, Tenn.). John and Martha came to Sullivan Co. in 1855. Besides Wm. T. they were the parents of three children born in Ill. Robert B. (Sept. 4, 1849-may 31, 1862); Carter Shannon (July 2, 1853-Dec. 18, 1933), and Margaret Jane (1855-1918). She married Henry L. Case, Wm. T. was born on the farm owned by his father. This farm has been in the McKee family since, and is now occupied by great grandson Earl and wife Carol England McKee and son, Mike. William T. suffered crippling illness at 9 years of age which necessitated his walking with a cane of crutches the remainder of his life. Wm. T. and Nancy operated a general store in Humphreys for many years. Their children were: John, born in 1880; Olen, 1882; Carl, 1884; Martha, 1886; Shannon, Feb. 24, 1899; and Willie, June 8, 1901. Wm. T. enjoyed telling stories of early county history.He suffered from cataracts in later years. The McKee family has been in Sullivan Co. for about 120 years.
