J. Hugh Wooden
Dies; Rites Today
Funeral services for J. Hugh Wooden of the Barskin Apartments, whose death occurred Monday evening at 8:30 in Morgan County Memorial Hospital, were set for 3:30 this afternoon at the Cure and Hensley Chapel.
Mr. Wooden's death followed an illness of three weeks. He was taken to the Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis for a few days, but was brought June 23 to Memorial Hospital. His four sons have been with him since the early part of his illness.
A life-long resident of Morgan County, Mr. Wooden was born near Hall Jan. 27, 1882, the son of Robert S. and Cordelia Wilhite Wooden. He was the fifth in a family of six children. For a number of years Mr. Wooden farmed at Hall and near Centerton and at one time was a rural mail carrier out of the Monrovia post office. Although he previously lived in Martinsville for a short time, he returned here for permanent residence in 1925.
For about 15 years he had been employed at the Home Lawn Sanitarium and was still there at the time he became ill.
Mr. Wooden became a member of the Christian Church at Hall while a boy and later transferred his membership to the First Christian Church in this city where he was a deacon. He was also a Mason—a member of the Blue Lodge at Hall, of the Chapter and Council and the Order of Eastern Star in Martinsville, and the Scottish Rite in Indianapolis. He was also a member of the Knights of Pythias until the Martinsville lodge was discontinued.
Of a genial disposition, Mr. Wooden had made many friends, and had always followed with great interest the athletic and teaching careers of his sons.
On April 19, 1905, he was married at Centerton to Miss Roxie Rothrock, who survives him. He also leaves the sons, Maurice L. Wooden of Avenal, Calif., John Robert of Los Angeles, Daniel of (the rest of the article is missing)
