Obituary from flammfh.com:
Jeffrey Wayne Webb, 81, of Rexburg, passed away December 2, 2020, surrounded by family.
Jeff was born June 20, 1939, in Taft, California. He was the second child born to Vance Arthur Webb and Nettie Jane Hudson Webb. He had one sibling, an older sister, Valerie Webb Miller, whom he loved very much. Jeff spent his childhood and early adult life living in Taft before moving to Bakersfield.
Love was always a word that defined Jeff.
He loved everything about his childhood and often remarked on what a wonderful heritage he had, filled with the love and support of extended family and friends. His memories of times with grandparents in Bakersfield and in the Pleito Hills up above Maricopa, as well as with cousins in Cambria on the central coast of California, brought him joy throughout his life. Those memories were always a favorite topic.
During his younger years, Jeff’s father operated Webb’s Variety Store in Taft, a store that Jeff often described as a forerunner to Wal-Mart. Jeff loved to work in the store and to be with his father. He fondly recalled the days of selling chicken feed, hay, and baby chicks. He said that when the chicks would arrive he would take them into the feed store and dip the chicks’ heads into water one by one to make sure they knew how to drink. This was a very happy time in Jeff’s life, and he cherished his time working in the store with his father.
Jeff’s father took Jeff with him everywhere he went and was always Jeff’s best friend until Jeff had children of his own. As a boy Jeff spent time in the summers with his father and uncles at his Aunt and Uncles ranch in Eden, Wyoming. It was there that he formed his love for the Wind Rivers. Every summer included time in Wyoming on the back of a horse, camping and fishing in the mountains of the Wind River range.
Jeff’s mother was a woman of deep faith who desired that he live a Christian life. In 9th grade, his parents sent him to school at the Monterey Bay Academy, a private Seventh Day Adventist boarding school in Monterey Bay, California. (Jeff confessed that she also had the hope that he would become a minister). That experience and his mother’s teachings laid a foundation of faith in Jeff’s heart that quietly guided him throughout his life.
After two years Jeff returned to Taft where he finished his junior and senior years playing sports, including football, basketball, baseball, and track. In reflection, Jeff confessed that he wished he had spent more time playing football. He had a lifelong love of watching and participating in sports. While in high school, he also worked in the oil fields.
Jeff graduated from high school in 1957 when he began a 10+ year career with Standard Oil Company in Taft. In 1970 he became a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, working as a construction electrician. For the next 23 years Jeff worked on many projects throughout Kern County. He was well respected in his field as a knowledgeable and conscientious craftsman in commercial and industrial construction. He enjoyed his work and his coworkers and made many cherished friends. Late in his California career, he worked as an electrical inspector on co-generation plants, work he found very gratifying and fulfilling.
In 1993 Jeff moved his family to Southeast Idaho where he was able to fulfill his dreams of living in the mountains. His work portfolio grew to include residential construction, but he always felt his real skills were in commercial and industrial construction. Jeff’s worked ranged from Idaho Falls, to the INL site, to the Teton Valley, and up to Island Park. Driving snowy roads in the winter was a new experience.
Jeff loved Idaho and spent as many weekends as possible in Kilgore at his wife’s family ranch. He loved breathing the mountain air, exploring the mountains and canyons, fishing the creeks, hunting, and taking his children with him, just as his father had done with him. Jeff’s love of the outdoors defined him in many ways as he spoke about the quiet spiritual experiences he had with his Father in Heaven when out in nature and as he shared his love of the outdoors with his children. A typical weekend in Idaho included his children, the dog, his truck, and fishing poles or guns depending on the season.
Jeff was blessed with six children. He loved his family and was very proud of each one. He was quick to brag about his wife, his children and their spouses, and his grandchildren. His life focused on meeting the needs of his family and teaching them the importance of faith in God, hard work, and common sense. He believed in an honest day’s pay for an honest day’s work.
In 1987 Jeff became a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Jeff had deep faith in our Savior Jesus Christ and a testimony of eternal families. Jeff and Kathy and their posterity were sealed for time and eternity on March 11, 1988, in the Los Angeles California Temple. Later in his life, he especially enjoyed time serving in the temple where he participated with a group of friends twice a month extending the blessings of eternal families to those who had gone before.
Jeff will always be remembered for his larger-than-life personality, his strong hands, his tender heart, his good-natured teasing, and his love for his family and the Lord.
Jeff is survived by his loving wife, Kathy; children Brad (Cindy) Webb of Bakersfield, California; Steve (Julia) Webb of Benton City, Washington; Kendra (Sam) Angell of Rexburg, Idaho; Ty (Heidi) Webb of Idaho Falls, Idaho; Travis (Vanessa) Webb of Rexburg, Idaho; and Tanner (Shayla) Webb of Rexburg, Idaho. Jeff was blessed with fifteen grandchildren, with number sixteen due in January and his first great grandchild coming any day. He also survived by many extended family members, including many nieces and nephews, whom he loved very much. Jeff was preceded in death by his parents and sister.
A visitation will be held at 1 p.m., on Saturday, December 5, 2020, at Flamm Funeral Home located at 61North 1st East, Rexburg, Idaho 83440. A family service will follow at 2 p.m. Interment will be in the Ririe Shelton Cemetery located at 12463 E 129 N, Rigby, Idaho.
