EDITH M. ABBEY
GALENA, KANSAS: Edith M. Abbey, 94, 900 Main Street, died at 2:35 pm, Monday, April 15, 2002 at Freeman West Hospital, Joplin, MO following a brief illness.
Mrs. Abbey was born August 23, 1908 at Galena, KS. Her parents were the late Rodney and May (Tedrow) Dorman.
She was a lifetime resident of Galena.
She graduated form Galena High School in 1926. She acquired a Bachelors of Arts degree at Northwestern Teachers College, Tahlequah, Oklahoma.
She taught school for 2 years in Anaco, Venezuela. She later taught in the Galena Schools for 10 years, until her retirement.
She was one of the founding members of the Galena Womans Club, which began in January, 1936.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Galena where she had worshipped all of her life. She sang in the church choir for many years.
Edith was married to Daniel T. Abbey on January 19, 1929 at Galena, KS. He died April 2, 1963.
Surviving are nieces and nephews; Carolyn Small, Carrollton, TX, Linda (husband, Mark) Powers, Carl Junction, MO, Sara (husband, Tony) Mrgudic, Northridge, CA, Mike (wife, Pat) Lamb, Baxter Springs, KS, Jim (wife, Gay) Lamb, Caneyville, KY, Janet (husband, Skip) Wilder, Medical Lake, WA, and Robert (wife, Karin) Ewen, Midlothian, VA; 12 great nieces and nephews; and 11 great-great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Robert Dorman and Neal Dorman; 5 sisters, Ruth Dorman, Helen Miller, Frances Robeson, Rachel Lamb, and Jean Ewen; one niece, Sandy Lamb.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 pm, Friday, April 19, 2002 at Derfelt Funeral Home, Galena, Kansas. Rev. Bob Dart will officiate.
Burial will be in Hill Crest Cemetery, Galena, KS.
Pallbearers will be Mark Powers, Brian Powers, Danny Powers, Steve Vogel, Raymond Carlisle, and Mark Williams.
The family will receive friends from 7:00 – 8:00 pm, Thursday, April 18 at the funeral home.

Services will be 2 p.m. Friday at the Derfelt Funeral Home, Galena, with the Rev. Bob Dart officiating.
Burial will be in Hill Crest Cemetery, Galena.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
