Louie Wesley "Wes" Sullivan, 68, passed away October 1, 2007, at the University of Mississippi Medical Center. Visitation is today from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Colonial Chapel Funeral Home in Mendenhall, and Thursday, October 4 from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Mendenhall. Funeral services will be held Thursday, October 4 at 2:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Mendenhall, with burial to follow at Magee Cemetery in Magee.
Wesley graduated from the University of Mississippi with a Bachelor of Science Degree. While at Ole Miss, he played the positions of End and Kicker on the Rebel football teams from 1959 to 1962. Wesley played in the 1960 Sugar Bowl, the 1961 Cotton Bowl and the 1962 Sugar Bowl. These teams won the National Championship in 1960 and 1962, with the 1962 team being the only unbeaten, untied team in Ole Miss' storied football history.
Throughout his life, Wesley continued to follow and support Ole Miss athletics. He retired from a successful career in pharmaceutical sales, and thereafter raised Black Angus cattle at Sullivan Farms near Magee. Wesley was a member of the First Baptist Church of Mendenhall, the Ole Miss M Club, the Ole Miss Loyalty Foundation and the Ole Miss Alumni Association.
He was a loving father, husband, brother, a very proud grandfather and a good friend to many people. His time was spent enjoying his grandchildren and his many, many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Marvin Thomas Sullivan, Sr., and Roxie Vernell Sullivan of Braxton; his sister, Mrs. Helen Sinclair of Lexington; and his brother, Marvin Thomas Sullivan Jr., of Braxton.
Survivors include: his wife of 45 years, Aleita Ann Magee Sullivan of Mendenhall; his daughter, Wesla Ann Sullivan Leech and son-in-law, William Hollis Leech Sr., of Flowood; his daughter, Sonya Leigh Sullivan McElroy and son-in-law, Michael E. McElroy, Jr., of Hattiesburg; his grandchildren, Ann Francis "Annie" Leech, Mary Magee "Maggie" Leech and William Hollis Leech Jr., of Flowood, Katherine Monroe "Kate" McElroy, Morgan Magee McElroy and Michael E. "Mikey" McElroy, III of Hattiesburg; his brothers, Charles G. Sullivan and Billy G. "Bucky" Sullivan of Braxton; and his sisters, Ms. Joan Turnage of Monticello, Mrs. Betty Sue Taylor of Braxton, Mrs. Glenda Mangum Brooks of Magee and Mrs. Jane Ellen Everett of Magee.
