Married to Edward V. Zigrang.
Mother of Mary Jane Zigrang Quinn and Donald Joseph Zigrang.
Grandmother of Michael, Maureen, Patrick and Charlene Quinn.
I will forever remember my grandmother for the wonderful cook that she was. She made the best chicken and dumplings, potato salad and her pumpkin pie was to die for. Really, anything from her kitchen was fabulous. When I was in high school, I asked grandma to teach me how to bake a pie. Her method was a "pinch of this and a pinch of that" which didn't work for me- unfortunately, as I needed true measurements. Her magical kitchen skills, which came from her early days of feeding farm hands in Iowa, sadly were not passed down and holiday meals have never been the same since her passing.
My grandmother, an only child, was orphaned at the age of 3. Her father passed away from cancer when she was a baby and her mother was murdered as she sat holding my grandmother in her arms (grandma had a scar from the bullet as it grazed her arm before hittng her mother). She was taken in and raised by the Patterson family (not clear if they were relatives or family friends). She, my grandfather and my mother moved from Iowa to California around 1925 or 1926, where she remained until her death in 1977.
