Born in Hillsborough in Loudoun County, Virginia, Mary was the daughter of Jonathan Lodge and Elizabeth (Leslie) Lodge. She was of Irish descent. Her family relocated to Columbiana County, Ohio (Salem Twp) in September of 1808. She married Joseph Humphreys on Sept. 10, 1810 in Elkrun Township. Joseph and Mary were Quakers. They moved from Elkrun Township between 1820 and 1830, and set up a homestead located just about 1 mile north of the crossroads later known as Adair, Ohio. Five sons (Samuel, Jonathan, Joseph, John, William) and four daughters (Elizabeth, Sophia, Sarah, Mary Ann 'Annie'). Some of her grandchildren (from her son William Humphreys) are buried nearby.
