Raleigh Godwin, 83, of Baker, Fla., passed away Jan. 7, 2008, at his home surrounded by his family.
He was born in Laurel Hill, Fla., and was a lifetime resident of Baker and Laurel Hill. Mr. Godwin was a mechanic and retired from Okaloosa County as a shop foreman. He served in World War II as part of the U.S. Navy. Raleigh was a member of First Baptist Church of Baker.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Christine Godwin; a granddaughter, Melissa Godwin; brother, Robert Godwin; and sister, Ruth Millines.
Survivors include his sons, Tommy Godwin and wife Carolyn of Wing, Ala., Larry Wayne Godwin and fiance Patsy Lawson, Carl Dwight Godwin and wife Patti, Kenneth Harold Godwin and wife Kay, and Daniel Keith Godwin and wife Dana, all of Baker; daughter-in-law, Marie Griffin of Baker; sisters, Ruby Lee Wheeler of Lakeland, Fla., and Rosella Walden of Santa Rosa Beach, Fla.; half-brother, Bill Moore of Georgia; halfsisters, Thelma Fleming of Baker, and Nell of Pensacola; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Irma Jean Nichols of Baker; and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
A time of visitation will be held Jan. 9 from 6 to 9 p.m. at Whitehurst-Powell Funeral Home.
The funeral will take place Jan. 10 at 10 a.m. at Whitehurst-Powell Funeral Home with the Rev. Cliff Morgan officiating. Burial will follow at Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church Cemetery.
Whitehurst-Powell Funeral Home is entrusted with arrangements.
