Former Longview resident Samantha Jolene Bonnell, 18, died Sept. 24, 2005, in Montclair, Calif. She had been missing since then and was not identified until two weeks ago.
Samantha was born March 19, 1987, in St. Helens, Ore. She attended Olympic and Mark Morris schools before moving to Anchorage, Alaska in 1998 and later to Palmer, Alaska in 2001.
She was like a sparkler --- tiny but with a spectacular light that didn't last long enough. Her family will always remember her brief, fiery beauty.
Samantha is survived by her mother, Mary Weir of Palmer; her father, Robert Green of St. Helens; her stepfather, William Bonnell of Clatskanie; her younger brother, Caleb Wilson of Palmer; her older sister, Cammy Robinson of Knappa, Ore.; her grandparents, Carol Mullins of Longview and Delbert and Susie Green of St. Helens; her aunts and uncles, David and Liz Baker, and Cil and Alex Huerta, all of Longview; and five cousins, Mindy Krieger, Jen Baker, Justin Baker, Bill Montgomery and Brandon Slape.
A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at Hudson Park Cemetery in Rainier. A memorial gathering will follow.
The unidentified teen who was struck by several cars and killed as she ran across the 10 Freeway on Sept. 24, 2005, finally has a name and has been laid to rest.
Mary Weir said she had to work long and hard to find out what happened to her daughter after Samantha left their Alaska home on March 17, 2005, just three days before her 18th birthday.
Samantha's plan, her mother said, was to make her way to California with her boyfriend.
Mary Weir described her daughter as a "free spirit" with a passion for reading. Before she left home, Samantha talked about becoming a lawyer.
Buried in Oregon where she has some family.
