Joseph Lee "Big Joe" Williams
Birth: Oct. 16, 1903
Death: Dec. 17, 1982

Musician. Born in Crawford, Mississippi, he was Delta blues songwriter noted for his emotional singing and 9 string guitar. He began recording for the Bluebird label in the 1930s which resulted in the classics "Baby Please Don't Go" and "Crawlin' King Snake". His other recordings included "Highway 49", "Piney Woods Blues", "Blues on Highway 49" and "Going Back to Crawford". During the 1960s to 1970s, he was a regular in US Music Festivals and toured Europe. At the time of his death, musician John Fogerty and the house band from Antone's Club in Austin, Texas, paid for his grave headstone. (bio by: John "J-Cat" Griffith)
