Teodoro Rafael Yangco
Birth: Nov. 9, 1861
Central Luzon, Philippines
Death: Apr. 20, 1939
Manila

US Congressman. He attended the Ateneo de Manila, a Jesuit College, and studied law at Manila's University of St. Thomas, graduating in 1881. He then attended Ealing College in London to study business administration, graduating in 1886. Yangco then returned to the Philippines, where he operated several successful ventures, including a ship construction and repair yard, ferry lines, and an import-export company, also becoming involved in banking and insurance. In 1916 Yangco was the successful Nationalist candidate to serve as the Philippines Resident Commissioner in the US House of Representatives and served one three-year term, March, 1917 to March, 1920. He did not run for reelection, and returned to his business interests in Manila. A lifelong bachelor, Yangco was a benefactor of numerous Philippines charities and social service organizations, and was referred to by his countrymen as "The Great Philanthropist." The Teodoro R. Yangco Educational Institute in San Antonio, Zambales, Philippines is named for him, as is San Antonio's Masonic Lodge. (bio by: Bill McKern)

Don Teodoro,In behalf of my family, I want to express our profound gratitude for taking good care of my grandmother, Isabel, providing her with a home and an education. Your legacy will live on with the descendants of those lives you touched.
