| Birth: | Apr. 10, 1842 Concord (Lake County) Lake County Ohio, USA | | Death: | Jul. 22, 1890 Cheyenne Laramie County Wyoming, USA |  US Congressman. He graduated from Ohio's Willoughby Collegiate Institute in 1861 and enlisted as a Private for the Civil War in July, 1862. He was captured with most of his regiment at Harper's Ferry in September. After he was paroled, Corlett returned to Ohio and taught school. He reentered the Army in 1863 and served until the end of the war in 1865. He then attended law school at the University of Michigan and Cleveland's Ohio State and Union Law College, graduating in 1866 and attaining admission to the bar later that year. Corlett practiced law and was a Professor at Ohio State and Union, also teaching commercial law at several Ohio business colleges before moving to Cheyenne, Wyoming Territory in 1867. In 1869 he was an unsuccessful candidate for Congress. From 1870 to 1873 Corlett was Postmaster of Cheyenne, and in 1871 he was elected to the the Territorial Senate. From 1872 to 1876 he was Prosecuting Attorney of Laramie County. In 1876 Corlett was the successful Republican candidate for Wyoming's Delegate to the US House of Representatives and served one term, 1877 to 1879. He did not run for reelection in 1878, and returned to practicing law. In 1879 he declined the office of Territorial Chief Justice, but he served as a member of the Legislative Council from 1880 to 1882. Corlett was also involved in several business ventures, and was an organizer of the Cheyenne & Northern Railroad. (bio by: Bill McKern)
