Elizabethtown, Kentucky - Dorothy Groves Rickert, 95, passed away at 6:10 AM Monday, September 10, 2007, at Helmwood Healthcare Center in Elizabethtown, Kentucky. She had made Elizabethtown her home for the past thirty-seven years.
Dorothy was born May 9, 1912 in Rome, Indiana, daughter of the late John David and Bessie (Royal) Groves. She spent her entire childhood in Rome. Also preceding her in death was her husband, Harold Edward (Bill) Rickert in 1935, two sisters, Margaret Groves Gilbert and Barbara Groves Spannuth, and a brother, James J. Groves.
A 1930 graduate of Rome High School, she received a full scholarship to Chicago Art Institute and later attended Indiana University and Vanderbilt University double majoring in math and art. Dorothy was an accomplished violinist and artist.
She is survived by her son Jon Edward Rickert, a former State Representative from Hardin County, local businessman, lawyer and hotel owner, and his wife Bobbie Rickert, a retired educator in the Elizabethtown Independent School System; her three grandchildren, all of whom graduated from Elizabethtown High School, Jon Edward Rickert Jr., London, England, Ann Rickert Kloeppel, Nashville, Tennessee, and Carolyn Rickert Fatheree, Nashville, Tennessee; five great grandchildren, Kathryn & Emmalin Rickert, Lucy Kloeppel, and twin boys Campbell & Tate Kloeppel.
Funeral services will be 10:00 AM CDT, Friday, September 14, 2007 at Huber Funeral Home-Cannelton Chapel. Burial will be in Rickert Cemetery in the German Ridge area near Rome, Indiana. Visitation will be from 9:30 until service time Friday at Huber Funeral Home-Cannelton Chapel.
