WASHINGTON TWP. -- George G. Muttart died early Sunday morning, Sept. 16, 2007, at Hackettstown Regional Medical Center. He was 79.
Mr. Muttart was born in Jersey City. He grew up in Rutherford and had resided in Long Valley for the last 30 years.
Mr. Muttart founded National Elevator Corp. in 1960. He was the elevator contractor for the installation of the elevator in the Statue of Liberty during its Centennial Celebration. He retired in 1998.
He served as a sergeant in the Army during World War II. He was a graduate of Rutherford High School, Class of 1945, and a member of the football team. He was a member of the Rutherford Volunteer Fire Department Company No. 2 and the Free & Accepted Masons.
Mr. Muttart was predeceased by his wife, Marita (Boin) Muttart, who passed away in March.
He is survived by his son, Douglas K. and his wife, Janet; his son, Kenneth; and his sister, Barbara Ostler. He also is survived by three grandchildren, Douglas J., Darren, and Jacueline; and four great-grandchildren, Olivin, Dean, Raegan and Juliette.
Friends will be received on Wednesday, Sept. 19, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Collins-Calhoun Funeral Home, 19 Lincoln Ave., Rutherford, N.J. Funeral services are on Thursday, Sept. 20, at 10 a.m. at Collins Calhoun Funeral Home. Interment is at Hillside Cemetery in Lyndhurst.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association, 2550 Route 1, North Brunswick, N.J. 08902-4301, and The Lung Association, 1600 Route 22 East, Union, N.J. 07083.
