United States Navy 4-Star Admiral. Carlisle Albert Herman Trost served as the 23rd Chief of Naval Operations from 1986–1990. Graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 1953 at the top of his class and was selected as an Olmstead Scholar early in his career. He served 37 years of commissioned service, from destroyers and submarines, including operational commands, and executive service positions. He was selected by President Ronald Reagan to be the Navy's top military leader in 1986. He retired at the end of his term as Chief of Naval Operations on June 29, 1990, going on to serve as Chairman of the Board of the United States Naval Academy Alumni Association until 2009.
