Professional football player. After graduating from Chelsea High School, he went to College of the Holy Cross from 1940 to 1943. After graduating he was drafted in the 2nd round by the Chicago Cardinals in the NFL. He was a triple threat player in passing, rushing, and receiving during his five years in the NFL. In his second year with the Cardinals in 1944, he led the league in kick-off return attempts and yardage. He made All Pro that year playing for the merged Card-Pitt combine known fondly as the "Carpits." He had a chance to be the leading rusher in the league going into the last two games of the season. The insular, taciturn Grigas was the best player on a mediocre team, but he couldn't take the weekly losses of the anemic Carpits. He simply quit the team, packed his bags, and went home to Massachusetts. He played for the NFL Boston Yanks from 1945 through 1947. After football he worked as an industrial engineer for American Optical Company for 35 years, retiring in 1982. He was inducted into the Holy Cross College Hall of Fame in 1976. (bio by: Mel Bashore)
