"Oscar Avery Peterson, 48, Burley died Monday of a heart ailment while fishing in the Elba area. He was born June 18, 1920, at Burley. On Mar 31, 1943, he married Elsie Tolman in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple. He graduated from Declo High School and attended Idaho State University at Pocatello. He worked with the Boy Scouts and served as a Bishop Explorer leader, district Explorer leader and had received the Silver Beaver Award.
Mr. Peterson lived in the Tucson, Az area after his marriage and until 1952 when he returned to Burley where he farmed. He later purchased the Purina Feed Store.
He was a member of the LDS Church, served as a counselor in the Bishopric and as general secretary in the Priesthood.

Survivors include his widow of Burley; three sons, Dennis O. Peterson, Fort Ord. Calif.; Don L. Peterson and Dean Peterson, both of Burley; four brothers, C. Ray Peterson, Boise; Harold A. Peterson, Rupert; Don H. Peterson and Byron Peterson, both Tucson; six sisters, Mrs. Leona Carlson, Mrs. Alice Haycock and Mrs. Eva Banner, all Burley; Mrs. Mary Coltrin, Reno, Nev., Mrs. Luella Morgan, Twin Falls, and Mrs. Zelda Jones, ShoLow, Ariz.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in the Burley LDS Stake House with Bishop Ralph Rasmussen officiating. Final rites will be at Pleasant View Cemetery. Friends may call at the Payne Mortuary Thursday afternoon and evening and on Friday."
