Eldon A. Kokes, 85, of Ord, NE died Thurs., Sept. 13, 2007, at the Valley View Living Center in Ord.
Funeral services were held Tues., Sept. 18 at 10:30 am at the Ord United Methodist Church with burial at National Cemetery west of Ord. Military honors were provided by the Ord VFW Post 7029 and American Legion Post 38.
Eldon was born Oct. 31, 1921, in Valley County, Nebraska to Adolph M. and Minnie (Janesofsky) Kokes. He grew up on the family farm west of Ord. He attended rural school at Valley county district 32 and graduated from Ord High School in 1939.
On June 22, 1942, Eldon was united in marriage to Freda Dockhorn at the Ord Danish Parsonage.
Eldon entered the United States Army in 1942. He served as a Tec. 4 in Aleutian Islands, European Theatre and Italy during WWII. After being wounded, he received a Purple Heart with Oak Leaf Cluster, EAME ribbon with one bronze
service star and APTC ribbon with one bronze service star. He was discharged in October of 1945. After the service he returned home. He then farmed north of North Loup for three years. They then purchased a farm west of Ord where they
farmed until retirement. The couple moved into Ord in 1988. His wife died Dec. 24, 2003.
Survivors include three sons and two daughters-in-law, Larry and Patricia and Charles and Cheryl, all of Ord and Harold of New Orleans, LA; one daughter and son-in-law, Ella Jean and Mike Jackson of Ord; 10 grandchildren; 5
great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Leonard of Lakeside, OR and Benny J. of Prosser.
He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, a granddaughter, Royal Kokes, an infant sister, Dorothy, a sister, Darlene M. Goc and a brother, Robert A. Kokes.
