GLENDIVE, MONTANA: Lena Boese, 92, died Sunday, January 8, 2006, at the Glendive Medical Center. Funeral services were held on Thursday, January 12, 2006 in the White Chapel Mennonite Church of Glendive with Pastor Neville Peterson officiating. Interment was in the Dawson Memorial Cemetery in Glendive. Silvernale-Silha Funeral Home of Glendive is entrusted with the arrangements.
Lena was born on December 18, 1913 the daughter of Glen Joseph and Cora May (Chupp) Borntrager. She attended school at the Red Top School in Bloomfield, Montana. Lena graduated from Dawson County High School in Glendive with the class of 1932. Lena attended colleges in Hesston, Kansas; Goshen, Indiana and Billings, Montana. She graduated from Goshen College with an Associate of Arts Degree in 1948. In 1952 she spent 11 months in Europe, 3 months on a college tour and 8 months she cooked as a volunteer in a PAX camp after World War II.
She returned to Bloomfield and continued to teach for area schools. In June of 1954 she married Alfred Boese. She became an instant mother to five children ages 3 to 16 years. Alfred became ill with Parkinson's Disease in 1958. In 1966, they sold the family farm to Jerry Boese and moved into Glendive. Alfred passed away in 1971. Lena enjoyed various hobbies, mostly crocheting, reading and sewing. She enjoyed a very healthy and happy life at Grandview Retirement Apartments. Lena enjoyed playing the piano and also did volunteer work at the Gift Shop of the Glendive Medical Center and at The Attic. She was actively involved in her church activities and also took great pleasure in driving her car and still being able to drive those who weren't able to drive themselves. Lena took great pride in being a grandma and a great grandma. The grand kids will miss her peanut butter fudge.
Lena was preceded in death by her parents, one son, Gerald George "Jerry", three brothers, Oscar, Elmer and Floyd and one sister Lillie Greiman.
Survivors include three sons; LeRoy"Dean" Boese and his wife Lila (Milne) of Gillette, Wyoming, Robert Glen "Bob" Boese and his wife Rita (Knutson) of Bigfork, Montana and Loren Lee Boese and his wife Sharla (Schipman) of Glendive, one daughter, Ellen Jean Beyl and her husband James of Glendive, and one daughter-in-law, Patricia (Egeness) Boese of Glendive, 14 Grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
