Don was a charter member of the Gaston Lincoln Genealogical Society and through the years served terms as its president and editor of its publication "Footprints in Time". The dedication, knowledge and kindness of this southern gentleman will be sorely missed by all, but expecially those of us in the genealogical world.

GASTONIA James "Donald" Gladden, 74, of Gastonia, passed away Sept. 11, 2007, at his residence.
He was born June 17, 1933, in Kings Mountain, son of the late Furman and Edna Paysour Gladden.

FUNERAL: 2 p.m. Friday, Greene Funeral Service, South Chapel, Gastonia

INTERMENT: Bessemer City Memorial Cemetery, Bessemer City

VISITATION: 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home
Mr. Gladden was a member of Lutheran Chapel Evangelical Church of Gastonia. He graduated from Kings Mountain High School in 1951 and attended Belmont Abbey College, Belmont, N.C. He was a US Navy Veteran, having served in the Korean War. Donald retired from Hoechst-Celanese, Charlotte in 1989 and worked for Lithium Corporation of America, Bessemer City, N.C.

SURVIVORS: Devoted caretaker and loving wife of 49 years, Lila Carpenter Gladden of the home; children and spouses, Gayle G. and Jeff Johnson of Stanley, Donna G. and Bucky Trimnal of Gastonia, Dena G. and Wayne "Jo Jo" Wright of Saugus, CA, Karen G. and Steve Snipes of Gastonia. "Pop Pop" to his grandchildren, Kevin Johnson of Atlanta, GA, Derek Johnson of Raleigh, NC, Patricia Barton of Gastonia, Alexa Snipes of Gastonia; niece and spouse, Kim and David DeVane of Kings Mountain; nephews, Furman Gladden Jr. of Greensboro, NC, Steve Gladden of Pleasant Garden, NC; special caregiver/niece, Peggie Dyer-Blaikie of Tewksbury, MA
