ALEXANDRIA Alvin L. King Jr., 79, died Sept. 6, 2007, at Community Hospital Anderson, following an extended illness.

He was born Dec. 30, 1927, in Vernon, Ind., and resided in Alexandria most of his life.

He served is country in the U.S. Army during WW II and was awarded a Victory Medal. He was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army, the Indiana National Guard and the U.S. National Guard.

Alvin retired as a journeyman electrician from Delco Remy Div. of General Motors. He also owned and operated a gas station.

He was a member of Alexandria Eagles Lodge 1771, where he served as a trustee. He was a bailiff for Alexandria Circuit Court.

Survivors include his wife, whom he married April 10, 1950, Laura (Fred) King; sons, Rodney (Marybelle) King, Arthur (Teresa Schaefer) King and Philip King, all of Alexandria; daughter, Christina Cox of Indianapolis; sisters, Gladys Garret and Alice "Doty" (Alvin) Fulson, all of Anderson; sisters-in-law, Isabelle Lindzy of Venice, Fla. and Karen Taylor Harr; and several grandchildren; great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Alvin was preceded in death by his parents, Cora (Dickey) and Alvin L. King Sr.; daughter, Linda King; siblings, George King, Donnie Ball, Virginia Carter and Charles King; brothers-in-law, Marvin Garrett, Jack Doty, Dave Snodgrass, Bill Carter, Don Ball and Herlan Venoy.

Services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at Robert D. Loose Funeral Homes and Crematory, South Chapel, 200 W. 53rd St., Anderson, officiated by the Rev. Gary Britton. Burial at East Maplewood Cemetery, where military graveside rites will be conducted by Anderson VFW Post 266.

Visitation 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday at the south chapel.

Memorial contributions may be made to the funeral home to help cover funeral expenses.
