John Edward Applegate was my paternal grandfather. He was born on Staten Island, New York, to Clinton Cornell and Ella (Richardson) Applegate. He had an older half-sister, Clara Elizabeth (Smith) Rumph, who was born in 1899. He married Eleanora May Stahl on December 31, 1937, in Hightstown. For many years, they lived at 115 Forman Street in Hightstown and he was employed as an auto mechanic at Main Line Garage. They had two children: John Edward and William Leroy.
