| Birth: | Nov. 3, 1930 | | Death: | Sep. 5, 2007 | Religious Leader. A pioneer in Christian broadcasting and pastor of one of America's largest churches, he was a key figure in what came to be known as "The Religious Right". Born in Augusta, Georgia, the former dance instructor entered the ministry in 1959. In south Florida he started a small church with only 45 members that under his leadership grew to a congregation of over 10,000 members. Using his pastorate at the Coral Ridge Presbyterian Church the well spoken preacher branched out into other avenues to spread his message. His radio and TV ministry reportedly reached 3.5 million people worldwide. He also founded the Center for Christian Statesmanship which arranged Capitol Hill Bible studies for elected officials. Although not as public as some of his contemporaries, he strongly espoused conservative views and spoke on major policy issues of the day. George W. Bush consulted him before running for the Presidency in 2000, and Rolling Stone magazine called him "The most influential evangelist you never heard of". He was prolific writer authoring over fifty books and he was the founder of two schools. Kennedy, who had suffered with cardiac problems, died at his home in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. (bio by: Bigwoo)
