John Christian Stock
Birth: Feb. 26, 1981
Gregg County
Texas, USA
Death: Sep. 6, 2007, Iraq

Staff Sgt. John C. Stock of Longview, Texas was a graduate of Longview High School, a member of LHS Varsity Swim Team, became an Eagle Scout at age 15, and an avid soccer player, having played for the U.S. Marine Corps team. He joined the United States Marine Corps at MCRD San Diego, Calif. After his graduation Recruit Training, he went on to complete Marine Combat Training before continuing his MOS training to become AAV Mechanic (2141). During his time as a 2141 with 3d AABN, Staff Sgt. Stock deployed on a UDP to Okinawa, Japan, for 15 months. After his initial four years of service, Staff Sgt. Stock tried his hand at civilian life before he reenlisted into the U.S. Marine Cops, where he was then assigned as the platoon sergeant of Headquarters and Services Platoon. Along with his five siblings, John Stock attended St. Mary's Catholic School and was active in the church where he attended through the eighth grade playing soccer while there before transferring to Longview. Before his enlistment he studied automotive repair in Houston. As a Boy Scout he earned his Eagle Scout rank when he was 15. When not Scouting, he enjoyed athletics. John also enjoyed music, rock and traditional Southern country artists. He like Waylon Jennings, and all the Hanks: Hank Williams, Hank Williams Jr. and Hank III. He had an adventurous and fearless spirit that was evidenced in the many pastimes he enjoyed: kayaking, camping, white water rafting, and mountain climbing. He was a good East Texas boy through and through. He was a devoted father and husband who would spend a lot of time talking about his family and enjoyed lifting weights and cooking, mostly barbecue. His platoon commander noted that he wanted to put hot sauce on absolutely everything. While serving with Bravo Company Second Platoon, Staff Sgt. Stock acted as a section leader. His awards include the Purple Heart, the Combat Action Ribbon, the National Defense Service Medal, the Iraqi Campaign Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal and the Sea Service Deployment Ribbon. He was not scared; he had no fear, and that's why Iraq did not scare him. He said he knew what he had to do, and he was proud to do it. He was killed in Western Anbar Province while manning a traffic checkpoint at age 26.
