He was promoted to Corporal in August 1943 and mustered out of service as a Master Sargent in the U.S. Army Air Force, with 34 months service, 25 months overseas. He was awarded the ETO ribbon with four bronze service stars and good conduct medal [Manitowoc Herald Times, 6 Dec. 1945, page 5].
Alton worked at Paragon Electric Co., Inc., Two Rivers, starting in 1958 through at least 1968 [Manitowoc Herald Times, June 5, 1968, page 20].
Alton resided at Sister Bay, Door Co., Wisconsin, from at least 1975 to 1983 [Obituaries of his father and mother; Herald Times Reporter, Dec. 2, 1975, page 3], where he owned Crown Drapery, which he founded in 1972.
Alton never married.
