James A. Matson was born in Franklin Township, DeKalb County, Indiana May 25, 1842 and died at Independence, Iowa, where he was under treatment October 22, 1888; aged 46 years, 4 months and 27 days.
He was married to Frances A. Taylor March 14, 1867, who departed this life December 30, 1887. The departed leaves two daughters, a mother, three brothers, three sisters, many relatives and friends to mourn their loss. The deceased was well known in this community and had many friends here. The remains were brought here for interment and his two sisters with their husbands accompanied the remains from Iowa. The cause of death was partial paralysis and pneumonia. He had been for many years a commercial traveler, his home being at Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The following circular letter will explain itself.

It is with a feeling of personal bereavement that we announce to you the death of our esteemed salesman, Mr. James A. Matson, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, who died on the 22nd inst. and who for eight years has been our representative in your locality. He was a thoroughly upright honest man of excellent character and habits, who served his customers and us faithfully for years. He has gone to his long rest bearing the esteem of all who knew him.
