Birth: May 20, 1844

Death: Oct. 8, 1911

On Sunday morning, October 8, 1911, at about 9 o'clock this mother in Israel slept away passing into the realm beyond without a struggle marking her going. When the news of her departure was sent abroad it cast a shadow of gloom over a wide circle of friends. Mother Dixon some time ago had a stroke of apoplexy which partially affected her body, but just prior to her death she seemed to be unusually bright and her husband and family felt very much encouraged. Last Friday she took an active interest in the work about the house and was heard to quietly sing some familiar hymns, the family feeling very cheerful over her condition. During the night she was seized with another stroke and sank into an unconscious condition from which she never recovered, sleeping into the next world. Miss Lavina J. Over was born May 20, 1844, the daughter of Michael and Eliza Over, of Licking township, where she resided until after her marriage to James A. Dixon, of Piney township which took place January 16, 1862, at her home. . Dixon still survives and he and his wife celebrated their golden wedding just three weeks prior to her demise. The surviving children are: W. O. Dixon, Porter twp; J. E. Dixon, New Bethlehem; Mrs. J. E. Armer and Mrs. F. L. Crooks, Clarion, Pa; H. E. Dixon, on the h homestead farm; R. C. Dixon, Pittsburg; Mrs. O. E. Bartoe and G. E. Dixon, Butler, Pa.: Mrs. C. G. Burns, New Bethlehem, and Miss Jane Dixon at home. Their youngest daughter died in 1901. Mrs. Dixon also leaves three sisters and four brothers as follows: W. W. Over and J. L. Over, Piney twp; Frank Over, Curllsville; E. L. Over, Monroe Township; Mrs. Luther Kifer, Pittsburg; Mrs. Daniel Shaner, Olean, and Mrs. Ambrose Lerch, Sligo. 29 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren also survive. Mother Dixon lived a beautiful Christian life from the time she was 16 years of age -more than 52 years. She taught a class in the Sunday school at the Mr. Zion Lutheran church, of which she was a member for 40 years since 1867; 44 years ago she has only missed the Holy Communion 4 times. She was a fine example of a noble and faithful Christian and always lived up to her high standard of a Christian at home and abroad. As was fitting, such a life had abundant recognition and commanded the love and esteem of all who came into contact with her and at its close it was just natural that there should be an abundance of floral emblems and offerings at the obsequies. funeral was held from her late home and the body was take to the church in which she had served so long, the services being conducted by her pastor, the Rev. P. J. Shriver, following which the body was laid to rest in Mr. Zion cemetery to await the resurrection of the just. Clarion Democrat. Transcription courtesy of Paul Kifer.
