He was an outfielder and pitcher for twelve seasons (1948 to 1959) with the Chicago Cubs, Cincinnati Reds and St. Louis Cardinals. He enjoyed his most successful offensive year in 1948, when he had a career high 132 hits with a .279 batting average. In 1954, Jeffcoat made the adjustment from outfielder to pitcher and recorded 12 victories in 1957. He had 487 hits with a .248 lifetime batting average. In 245 games as a pitcher, Jeffcoat won 39 and lost 37 with a 4.22 lifetime era. He died of complications from a stroke. (bio by: C.S.)
