A Civil War veteran, he enlisted and mustered into federal service at Carlisle March 27, 1865, as a private with Co. H, 28th Pennsylvania Infantry, and honorably discharged with his company July 18, 1865.
Cause of his death is listed as "Potts disease" [tuberculosis of the spine] with "bronchitis" a contributing factor. Oddly, no obituary was found in any online newspaper archive.
