Walter Lowery Nix
Funeral services for Walter Lowery Nix, 47, were held at the Moore Methodist Church on Saturday morning, June 14th, at ten o'clock with last rites conducted by the Rev. M. J. Peden, assisted by the Rev. C. B. Hamlet, III. Interment was in Oakwood cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were L. E. Lamb, Clarence Oliver, C. H. George, Ed Fondren, J. V. Ferguson and W. M. Moorman.
Mr. Nix was stricken with a cerebral hemorrhage on Friday, June 13th, while visiting in the office of Joe Williams Electric Company, Jackson, for which firm he had been a traveling representative until stricken. On April 10th he suffered a heart attack and was confined to his bed until recently. He passed away at the Baptist Hospital in Jackson.
Mr. Nix was born at Tyrus, Lawrence County, Miss., on June 19, 1904. He had been a resident of Winona for the past seven years having moved here in January 1945. He was a member of the Methodist Church and the Lions Club. His passing will be mourned by all and especially the young people who knew him as Uncle Lowery because of the keen interest he took in all their activities.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Inda Smith Nix; two sons, Thomas Nix of Memphis and Bob Nix of Winona; a daughter, Jane Nix of Winona; his mother, Mrs. Jackson Nix; three sisters, Mrs. G. B. Williamson, Mrs. M. F. Tullos and Mrs. Prie Burton, all of Jackson; and one brother, Frank H. Nix of Greenville.
