Funeral services will be held Saturday for Charles R. Coole, 65 rural Albany, who died at 7:15 a.m. Wednesday, July 22, 1981 in University Hospitals, Madison, following a lingering illness.
Born in Calexico, Calif., July 22, 1916, he was the son of Lawrence Earl and Vernia Winslow Coole. He graduated from Phoenix High School in Arizona in 1934. His marriage to Betty Hopkins took place Oct 4, 1937 in Long Beach, Calif.
He was a carpenters foreman at the UW-Madison for 20 years, retiring Feb 20 of this year. He had lived in Albany since 1959, and had previously resided in Monroe and Brodhead.
Surviving are his wife, Betty; two sons, James L. Nashville, Tenn., and John R., San Diego, Calif; four daughters, Mrs. LaVerne (Linda) Isely, Monroe; Mrs. Warren(Penny)Nipple, Albany; Mrs. J. P. (Doris) Brady, Rockford, Ill., and Mrs. John (Margaret) Minks, Rockton, Ill.; a sister, Mrs. Patrick (Alice) Murphy, Phoenix (AZ) and 20 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Erma Hallen, and a grandson, Scott Nipple, both in 1969.
A veteran of World War II, Mr. Coole enlisted in the U. S. Navy Feb 10, 1937, in San Francisco, Calif., and was discharged there Feb. 15, 1941, as a Seaman First Class. His second tour of duty was from May 9, 1944 to Nov 7, 1945, having been discharged in San Pedro, Calif., as Seaman First Class. He served overseas and received the Victory Medal, Work War II Medal, Asiatic-Pacific, American Area and American Defense Ribbons and the Good Conduct Medal.
He was a member of McDermott-Steindorf American Legion Post of Albany, the University of Wisconsin Employees Club and the Carpenters Union of Madison.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday in the First Baptist Church of Albany, of which he was a member, the Rev Olaf Carlsen officiating. Interment will be in Hillcrest Cemetery, Albany.
Friends may call Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Gohlke's Sharer Funeral Home, Albany. Military graveside services will be held.
