Vera Mae, a local resident, who was a kindly, giving woman, & one who had a hard life. There was never anything but a kind word from anyone about her. She kept a very tidy house and just about worried herself crazy over her children & grandchildren. My visits with her were pleasant, and we'd talk about all sorts of things, just to get her mind off of her worries.

She was eldest daughter of William Marshall Johnson & Beulah Mae Graves. Wife of Roy Asbury Howard. She and Roy married 31 Dec 1939 in Laurel Hill, by John W Thomas, Minister. Witnesses were Allen Parker & Lena Mae Wynn.

A tidbit of life found....

"Pre-School Party Enjoyed by Young Friends of Jdy Howarrd Frida" [sic]
Mr. and Mrs. Roy Howard were hosts to about twenty young friends of their daughter, Judy, when they gathered at their home here Friday evening.
The party was a pre-school get-together for the local young people and visitors from Florala and Crestview.
Plenty of refreshments, sandwiches, cake, cookies and cool-ade [sic] served the youngsters as they enjoyed the evenings fun.

She had 3 daughters & 1 son and at least 6 grandchildren and several gr-grandchildren to survive her. Two grandchildren passed before her.

This was my husband's aunt.

Daughters:
Barbara Ann Howard Griffin (1941 - 2010)
Judy Lucille Howard Fountain (1945 - 2000) interred Kelly Family Cem., Milligan
Sheila Diane Howard Hall Huntz (1958 - 2001)
